Extracurricular Math at Driscoll
Driscoll offers two options for students to participate in math competitions outside of school. Starting in 4th grade, students may participate in Math League. In seventh and eighth grade, students can compete in the Math Counts competition.
Math League (Gr. 4 - 6)
Driscoll's math league team competes against the other seven Brookline public K-8 schools, as well as Park School, in the town-wide Math League competitions three times each year. Students compete in 5 categories: bases, operations, geometry, group problem solving, and patterns.
The Driscoll team typically meets for 30 minutes three times per week: twice before school, and once after school. Competitions are held in January, February, and March. Fifth and sixth grade students are eligible to compete. Fourth grade students practice with the team to prepare for future competitions. They are also invited to attend the final meet as guests. MathCounts (Gr. 7 - 8)
Driscoll also organizes a MathCounts team that meets during middle school lunch. They compete in one meet per year, typically held in the winter.
